NEBOSH (The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) was formed in 1979 as an awardingbody with charitable status. We offer a comprehensive range of globally-recognized, qualifications designed to meet the health, safety andenvironmental management needs of all places of work. Courses leading to NEBOSH qualifications attractaround 50,000 candidates annually and are offered by over 600 course providers, with exams takeninover 120 countries around the world. In 2014, we were delighted to be awarded Britain's highest accolade for trade success, the Queen's Award for Enterprise, for our "outstanding achievement" in International Trade.
Our qualifications are recognized by the relevant professional membership bodies including the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM).
NEBOSH examinations and assessments are set by its professionally qualified staff assisted by external examiners; most of whom are Chartered Safety and Health Practitioners or Chartered Environmentalistsoperating within industry, the public sector or in enforcement.

General fire safety in England and Wales is maintained through compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. The legislation implements a risk-based approach to fire safety in community, industrial and business premises. It requires the responsible person (usually the employer, owner or occupier) to carry out a fire safety risk assessment, implement appropriate fire precautionary and protection measures and to maintain a fire management plan. All members of staff have a role to play in fire safety and the fire safety qualifications support these various roles.
